Fifth grader Kate Osmundson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota loves to tell her peers how great healthy foods taste. Katie exemplifies being a good role model – and a good Fuel Up to Play 60 National Student Ambassador – to those around her by showcasing her athleticism by playing volleyball and swimming on the Sioux Falls Seals swim team and educating others about eating healthy.
“I hope to accomplish more fitness and healthy eating habits for myself, with my school, with my community and anywhere else I can,” says Katie.
In addition to her role with Fuel Up to Play 60 and being a member of her school’s Wellness Council, Katie is active with her church. She attends youth group, Sunday school and lends a hand with her church’s nursery. She also plays cello and piano, enjoys babysitting and loves to cook and bake.
Katie embraces her role communicating the greatness about the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. She loves to share with others the importance of eating healthy and staying active. “It starts with me setting a good example to those around me,” says Katie. This Fuel Up to Play 60 National Student Ambassador can often be found sporting her Fuel Up to Play 60 gear and enlightening her peers about how great she feels after exercising and eating healthy. “I take part in all the Fuel Up to Play 60 challenges at school and encourage others to do the same.”
Katie feels privileged for her role that allowed her to travel to Washington, D.C. for the Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Ambassador Leadership Summit this past summer. She also states that being a healthy role model to her peers and family, including parents Greg and Nicole and siblings Emma, Joe and Lily, also is rewarding.
Fuel Up to Play 60 is an opportunity for students, like Katie, to make a commitment to healthy eating and staying physically active. Peers alike can watch her lead by example by eating healthy with her favorite dairy food, cheese; and staying active with her favorite sport, swimming.
