2011-2012 Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Ambassador

For freshman Bailey Joy Aanenson, being an Ambassador for the Fuel Up to Play 60 program means that she is not only helping end childhood obesity and making her school better, but she is also setting herself as a role model to other students so they can join the movement and try to make healthier lifestyle choices in their own lives.

Bailey tries to plan fun Fuel Up to Play 60 events that appeal to everyone, and she is often found talking one-on-one with her peers, educating them about the importance of eating healthy and being active. “Once they are having fun and being active and eating healthy, they are always eager to continue,” she says.

At one of her school’s fitness carnivals, she invited special education children to join in on the Fuel Up to Play 60 fun. “As I watched them smiling, having fun and being active with all the other students, I realized why I do what I do,” says Bailey. “The moments are both rewarding for them, and for me, as a Fuel Up to Play 60 ambassador.”

From West Fargo, North Dakota, this ninth grader’s goal is to start a Fuel Up to Play 60 team in her new school, Sheyenne Ninth Grade Academy, and set a base for growth. “My plan is to talk to all the teachers and get the connection lines in place; to start the year off with an amazing kick off for this great program.”

In addition to her leadership role in Fuel Up to Play 60, Bailey stays very busy with her school, church and in her community. She plays flute in her school band, where she was given the honor of attending International Music camp and became a level three flutist. Also, last year, she was Student Council president and played volleyball. She volunteered as a group leader with her church’s youth program. In her free time, she loves being outdoors and is found hunting, fishing and swimming.

She enjoys playing volleyball and running with her dog, Buddy, to stay active. She states that her favorite dairy food is frozen yogurt and says adding fresh blueberries or strawberries “is the best.”
