Hannah McCoy from Prague, Nebraska loves her role as Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Ambassador and takes her role very seriously. “I am a leader for my peers and I love letting them know about the importance of exercise and healthy eating,” she states. “Fun games can include exercise without even thinking about it. Eating the right amounts of the basic food groups, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats and dairy can fuel your body up!”
The seventh grader at Bishop Neumann Junior and Senior High School and her family live on a farm in southeast Nebraska. “We have a small herd of cattle and have chickens for laying eggs,” she proudly states. Away from her academics, Hannah loves swimming, singing, playing volleyball and basketball, cooking healthy meals, involved in 4-H, skating and bowling. “I also have animals and I’m learning to ride my horse.”
She encourages her peers to eat healthy, including getting their recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables, along with three daily servings of dairy.
Hannah states that the most rewarding part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 program has been when she was chosen at a State Ambassador. “I also enjoyed my trip to Washington, D.C., and having the opportunity to learn new ideas on how to promote Fuel Up to Play 60 to my peers,” she states. “I have learned so much and feel confident as a state ambassador.”
She enjoyed the Fuel Up to Play 60 kick off at her school and sets good examples by eating healthy and exercising to her peers. “I work really hard to let others know about Fuel Up to Play 60,” she says.
Fuel Up to Play 60 is an opportunity for students, like Hannah, to make a commitment to healthy eating and staying physically active. Hannah enjoys being involved in sports, working with her horses, training her dogs and racing with her brother for ways to stay physically active. Her favorite dairy foods are milk and yogurt.
