Iowa Success Stories
Students and sports spectators at North Fayette Senior High School in West Union have gone bananas – not to mention strawberries and blueberries – for smoothies!
When the students of Central Springs School in Nora Springs, Iowa were asked what could be done to make their school a healthier place, the number one answer was to improve school lunches. That is what the Fuel Up To Play 60 student team and its program advisor, Karen Landers, set out to do. The team consulted the Fuel Up To Play 60 playbook, and came up with “Taste Test Thursdays.”
Indianola Middle School has quickly made its mark on the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. The school’s Wellness Committee – made up of students from each grade level – makes decisions about which Fuel Up to Play 60 program initiatives to implement, and earned the distinction of Touchdown School just a few short months after beginning their participation in the program.
