Midwest Dairy’s involvement in this year’s Sioux Empire Fair in Sioux Falls has been taken up a notch with the opening of the Pipestone Discovery Barn. The new feature will have its grand opening on Friday, August 1, at 5 p.m., offering many new experiences for those attending the fair, including a milking parlor with daily milking demonstrations and actual live cows expecting to give birth.

Thirteen young women involved with the Iowa dairy community will compete to win the title of 61st Iowa State Dairy Princess. The contest will begin on August 5 in Ankeny, with the coronation on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 8 p.m. at the Multi-Media Center of the Cattle Barn at the state fairgrounds in Des Moines.

Midwest Dairy Association has awarded three $1,000 scholarships to Illinois students from dairy backgrounds. Emily Irwin of Belvidere, Jennifer Wakeley of Rockford and Sarah Palmer of Durand were awarded the 2014 Illinois Division scholarships.
