Welcome to the Schools page hosted by the Midwest Dairy Council!
Improving school nutrition is our goal. Here you will find best practices to assist schools in establishing and maintaining a healthy nutrition environment where students learn life-long nutrition behaviors and practice them at school.
Best practices are strategies that are proven effective and/or efficient in bringing about the desired result, which is more students enjoying the benefits of good health by consuming Milk Group Foods.
Best practices for a healthy nutrition environment include:
- nutrition education in the classroom
- healthful choices on the school campus, including a la carte, vending, school stores, fundraising, classroom parties and classroom rewards
- wellness policy for the school district
- physical activity during the school day
- staff role-modeling healthful food and beverage choices
- adequate eating time for school meals
- fundraising projects reflecting healthy eating
This is an invitation to use the best practices at our Web site to design and implement plans for your school's healthy nutrition environment.
