Scholarships

Midwest Dairy Association offers scholarships to students who are from dairy farms or studying in dairy-related majors. Scholarship eligibility and awards vary by state. In addition, Dairy Management Inc. offers checkoff-funded scholarships at the national level.

Scholarships which are currently in the application phase are listed below.  Scholarships will be added as the year progresses. Check back to this site for your state if it is not listed; most Midwest Dairy Association scholarships are due on March 15.

Illinois Division of Midwest Dairy Educational Award

The Illinois Division of Midwest Dairy will be awarding three, $1,000 educational scholarships.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be considered or accepted as a full-time student at an accredited college.
  • Applicant must contribute checkoff to Illinois Milk Promotion Board  as of January 1 of the current calendar year by one of the following:
    • Applicant, or applicant’s parents/guardians/grandparents/sibling, must own a dairy farm residing in the state of Illinois.
    • Applicant must be employed on a dairy farm residing in the state of Illinois and recommended by the producer employee.
  • Former recipients of the scholarship may re-apply in subsequent years providing they remain eligible.

Criteria

Applicants will be evaluated on contributions to and involvement in the dairy industry, leadership, career plans, and academic standing.

  1. Complete the online application form by March 15, 2018.
  2. Recipients will be notified by May 15, 2018 and will be asked to submit the following by June 1, 2018:

Iowa Division of Midwest Dairy Educational Award

Minnesota Division Scholarships

More than $3,000 in scholarships will be awarded to students at the University of Minnesota CFANS in St. Paul, and two $1,200 scholarships will be awarded at the University of Minnesota in Crookston. Recipients are chosen by the University as part of their normal scholarship selection process.

MoKan Division of Midwest Dairy Educational Award

The MoKan Division of Midwest Dairy will be awarding (2) two $1,000 and (8) eight $500 educational scholarships.

Nebraska Division of Midwest Dairy Educational Award

The Nebraska Division of Midwest Dairy will be awarding the following educational scholarships:

  • College juniors and seniors with a future career in dairy are eligible for one $1,500 and one $1,000 award. When answering the essay question on future career plans, please describe how your education will be used to support the dairy community.
  • Students pursing any college major/degree are eligible for one of five $500 awards.

Eligibility

North Dakota Division Scholarships

One scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to a junior, non-graduating senior, or graduate student at the time of application and will attend NDSU during the 2018-19 school year. The recipient must be enrolled at North Dakota State University through the College of Human Development and Education. Selection is based upon academic accomplishment, leadership potential and commitment to health and wellness. Applicants seeking a graduate degree via the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (GPIDEA) program must reside in the Midwest Dairy Council region which includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Illinois.

Ozarks Division (Arkansas, Southern Missouri, and Eastern Oklahoma) of Midwest Dairy Educational Award

The Ozarks Division of Midwest Dairy will be awarding (4) four $750 educational scholarships.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be considered or accepted as a full-time student at an accredited college.
  • Applicant must contribute to Midwest Dairy checkoff as of January 1 of the current calendar year by one of the following:
    • Applicant, or applicant’s parents/guardians/spouse/grandparents/sibling, must own a dairy farm residing in the Ozarks Division territory, including Arkansas, Southern Missouri or Eastern Oklahoma. Please contact Stacy Dohle if you need to verify these qualifications.
    • Applicant must be employed on a dairy farm residing in the Ozarks Division territory, including Arkansas, Southern Missouri or Eastern Oklahoma, and recommended by the producer employee.

South Dakota Division Scholarships

Two $3,500 scholarships for upper class students and three $1,000 scholarships for incoming students are available annually for students majoring in Dairy Science at South Dakota State University in Brookings. The recipients shall be Dairy Science students who have demonstrated scholarship, need, leadership, and character. Preference will be given to students who are from South Dakota. When the scholarships are awarded there will be acknowledgment of contributions to the fund from South Dakota dairy farm families. The recipient of the Midwest Dairy Association Scholarship shall be selected by the Department of Dairy Science Scholarship Committee.

Dairy Management, Inc. Scholarships

National Dairy Promotion and Research Board (NDB) Undergraduate Scholarship Program
Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, an interest in a career in a dairy-related discipline, plus demonstrated leadership, initiative and integrity. Candidates are expected to complete an application form, submit a transcript of all college courses, and write a short statement describing their career aspirations, dairy-related activities and work experiences.

National Dairy Shrine Scholarship
(1st – $1,500; 2nd through 7th – $1,000 – Number of awards is dependent on number and quality of applicants). These scholarships are provided to encourage undergraduate sophomores and junior students to pursue careers in marketing of milk or dairy products. Major areas can include: Dairy Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Communications, Agricultural Education, General Education and Food and Nutrition. Awards are based on experience ability and interests in dairy/product marketing. Co-sponsored with Dairy Management Inc. Application Deadline is April 15.
