  1. Cook fettuccine according to package directions. Drain pasta; cover and keep warm.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Season the chicken with ½ teaspoon of salt and ¼ teaspoon of ground black pepper. Cook chicken until cooked through, about 5 to 6 minutes. Transfer chicken to a plate; set aside.
  3. Add 4 more tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Cook the broccoli, mushrooms, onion, and garlic just until the vegetables are softened, about 4 to 5 minutes. Transfer vegetables to the plate with chicken; set aside.
  4. In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the cream and remaining ½ cup of butter. Stirring frequently, cook until butter is melted, about 2 minutes. Add 1¾ cups of Parmesan cheese and remaining ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper; stir until cheese is melted.
  5. Combine pasta, chicken, broccoli mixture and bacon pieces in the large skillet. Stir cheese sauce into pasta mixture. Serve warm with remaining ¼ cup Parmesan cheese.
