Sioux Falls School Raises $2,300 for Milk in Local Food Pantries

April 2016 | 0 comments

Robert Frost Elementary School in Sioux Falls recently raised $2,300 toward the purchase of milk in Feeding South Dakota food pantries as part of their “Fuel Up Your Community” play for Fuel Up to Play 60.

With the help of Midwest Dairy Council, Dean Foods and Feeding South Dakota, Robert the school participated in a “Pints to Gallons” project to celebrate National Nutrition Month in March. Dean Foods donated clean pint and half gallon milk jugs which each classroom used to collect coins. The Wellness Council held a contest between classrooms and the class filling the most milk jugs won a prize. The Wellness Council then visited Feeding South Dakota to present the funds to be donated through the Great American MIlk Drive.

This project not only helped sell more milk, but also helped ensure local families in need have access to nutrient-rich milk. On top of that, the project also bridged Fuel Up to Play 60 from the school to the community, as well as provided student leadership opportunities.
