SMOOthie Fun with Raising a Farmer

It’s nearly, finally here… June is Dairy Month!

I’ve long admired #dairymom and farmer Brenda Rudolph for sharing what life is like on her family’s dairy farm in central Minnesota. For three years she’s been blogging at Raising a Farmer. Read a few of her stories, and you’ll soon understand farm life is a lot of work, and Brenda and her husband, Nate, approach life with laughter and fun too.

As another way of sharing farm life, Brenda, with her children Everett and Vivian, bring dairy fun to their kitchen. They’ve made everything from holiday apple pie to chocolate chip cookies and a hotdish (that’s Minnesotan speak for what other Midwesterners might call a casserole). Brenda’s enthusiasm for kitchen time with her kids is contagious; Everett and Vivian equally like being involved. I always like to see how many ingredients Viv sneaks to taste test!

Midwest Dairy partnered with Brenda to share a sMOOthie recipe in celebration of June Dairy Month. There are only 30 days in June, but there’s no expiration date on making healthy choices and enjoying 3 servings of dairy products, like milk, cheese and yogurt every day.

Cheers, and Happy June Dairy Month!

Harvest 2016: Midwest Dairy Farm Round-Up

It doesn’t seem like that look ago planting season in Midwest Dairy-land began. As per usual Mother Nature dictates when harvest begins and ends. When is the weather just right? What’s the window of time needed? I think what continues to amaze me about growing food for people and animals, in all the planning and preparation, a bountiful harvest is still mostly outside of farmers’ control.
