Vice President of Dairy Experience

Midwest Dairy™ is a non-profit organization financed and directed by the dairy farmers in ten states – Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and eastern Oklahoma.  The mission of the Association is to implement programs that help increase sales and demand for dairy products and dairy ingredients. The goal is to help improve the economic well-being of Midwest dairy farmers.

Midwest Dairy is seeking candidates for a full-time Vice President of Dairy Experience focusing on the communications and marketing platform area. This position is responsible for leading the strategy for the communications and marketing platform of the Dairy Experience team. It includes strategic planning and development, coordination and evaluation as well as budget oversight. Collaborates and provides counsel, strategy and support with internal and external stakeholders.

Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism or other related field and a minimum of 11 years work experience with marketing or dairy production/industry. Experience in external partner relationship management, preferred.

A. Lead strategy development recommend evaluation methods and adjust/modify strategies for the business to business to consumer (B2B2C) component of the Dairy Experience area of emphasis. – 45%

  1. Provide expertise with consumer insights to the development of the Dairy Experience strategic plan utilizing a business to business to consumer lens.
  2. Work collaboratively with CXO and Dairy Experience team leads to develop strategy, and guidance to Business Units (BU) staff to achieve Dairy Experience strategic plan.
  3. Provide counsel and seek feedback from Midwest Dairy Strategic Leadership Team and Business Units (BU) to enhance strategy development.
  4. Provide consumer and partner activity updates for staff and dairy farmers through established communication channels that include partnership with corporate communications.
  5. Develop key resources for BU demand customization and execution.
  6. Identify, package and communicate product and consumer insights and trends mined from the Research and Innovation team.  Manage agencies, consultants and vendors hired to meet outlined objectives and budgets.

B. Establish and manage relationships with key accounts, partner organizations and other identified stakeholders and thought leaders to work with and through partners to reach consumers. – 25%

  1. Foster relationships with strategic partners and organizations who can deliver activation and communication recommendations to a broad dairy industry audience.
  2. Actively participate and leverage memberships in industry associations and professional organizations to achieve organizational goals.  Participation might include committee roles, mentorship, and speaking and presenting opportunities.
  3. Assist in relationship management of key industry partners, where requested, or as needed.
  4. Represent Midwest Dairy at strategic industry functions to share information.

C. Monitor, evaluate, and incorporate DMI’s Unified Business Plan strategies for B2B2C communication into Dairy Experience priorities. – 15%

  1. Provide counsel and strategic input on consumer confidence-specific initiatives through the lens of business to business work.
  2. Collaborate with DMI when requested.

D. Participate in annual strategic planning, evaluations and budgeting processes. – 15%

  1. Provide leadership and input for annual strategic planning to represent long-term vision with expertise and insights around consumer communication with and through partners.
  2. Recommend emerging opportunities, trends and issues for consideration.
  3. Assist CXO with preparation of budget planning and preparation of budget tools.
  4. Manage assigned budgets to assure effective use of financial resources.

Job Specifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism or other related field and a minimum of 11 years work experience with marketing or dairy production/industry.  Experience in external partner relationship management, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  1. General business processes and acumen to include financial and budget management; result evaluation, (i.e. ROI); and communication principles.
  2. Knowledge of media relations, digital and online media and journalism.
  3. General knowledge of the dairy industry, for application in relationships with industry; helpful, but not required.
  4. Knowledge of and ability to utilize personal computers and related software; required.
