South Dakota State Fair

Get ready for endless fun and excitement at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron! This beloved annual event is a whirlwind of thrilling rides, live entertainment, and mouthwatering food, but dairy truly shines here. Visitors can indulge in creamy, farm-fresh treats from local producers and learn about the dairy industry through interactive exhibits.

The first South Dakota State Fair was held in 1885 in Huron, SD, although Huron hasn’t always been home to the state fair! Between 1885 and 1905, the South Dakota State Fair moved around the state, finally settling into its permanent home in Huron in 1905. Then, in 1913, the dairy buildings were constructed. The state fair is visited by nearly 200,000 attendees per year. This year, the South Dakota State Fair runs August 27 – September 1, 2025. More information about the fair can be found here.
