ANKENY, Iowa – Fourteen young women involved within Iowa’s dairy community will compete for the title of 72nd Iowa Dairy Princess and Alternate. The coronation ceremony will be held Wednesday, August 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Multi-Media Center of the Cattle Barn at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. The Iowa Dairy Princess and Alternate serve as year-long spokespersons for Iowa’s dairy community, attending events across the state to connect with consumers and promote dairy.
During the two-day contest, which kicks off Tuesday, August 5, contestants will be judged on their communication skills, professionalism, knowledge and enthusiasm about dairy. The experience also provides valuable networking and leadership development along with scholarship opportunities from Midwest Dairy, which sponsors the contest and princess program on behalf of Iowa’s dairy farmers.
