This spring, the Kansas State University Esports team swapped their headsets for boots and joined Midwest Dairy for an on-farm experience at Ohlde Family Farms, located just north of Manhattan, Kansas. Despite the chilly weather, the team arrived energized and curious, ready to learn about the origins of their favorite dairy products.

When asked if they had ever visited a dairy farm, not a single hand went up. Though dairy was a regular part of their diets, the students had never seen the process behind the products. This visit offered a chance to connect what’s in their fridge to the farmers who make it possible.

The team got an up-close look at the milking process and the daily routines farmers follow to keep their cows healthy, comfortable, and productive. They also learned how milk makes its journey from the farm to the grocery store. The experience made an impact, as survey results taken before and after the tour showed a 56% increase in agreement with the statement, “Dairy products come from cows that are treated humanely.”

The students asked thoughtful questions, took photos with the cows, and left with a new appreciation for dairy’s role in their daily lives. This tour capped Midwest Dairy’s year-long partnership with the K-State Esports, which focused on promoting dairy’s nutritional benefits among Gen Z audiences.

Following the visit, the Esports team shared their experience on Instagram with a reel and accompanying post. The video has already garnered more than 1,800 views, helping to further share their newfound perspective with peers and followers.
